You transfer along different trails with a park ranger guide who informs you about your preferred Gorilla Trekking Family in the forest after following them; you reach a point and meet them then stay in their presence for a period of 1 hour taking many photos to keep.

This Gorilla trekking Permit can be obtained through contacting an authentic Tour Operator agency to book these n your behalf before the day of arrival or you can contact the Rwanda development Board directly to book you your Gorilla trekking Permit.

Gorilla Trekking at Volcanoes National Park RwandaWhen finished with booking your Gorilla Trekking Permit, Accommodation as well as packing your bags, you board a flight from your original country which flies you to the Kigali International Airport and here you are welcomed by a Driver guide to transfer you to Ruhengeri District Musanze a journey that takes you 2 to 3 hours from the Airport.

Transfer through the never ending misty rolling hills of Rwanda and deviating canopies watching the green terrain vegetation and gardens of the local Rwandans. Sometimes it is raining making the entire very incredible and exciting.

After a while you reach Volcanoes National Park and check-in lodge for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. At Dinner you are briefed about the Gorilla Trekking Adventure the next Day by your Driver Guide. Later you rest for the night.

Today, get up very early in the morning have delicious breakfast then driver to the Park headquarters. On reaching here you meet other travelers then grab yourself a cup of hot coffee. Then after, you are briefed on the conduct around the Mountain Gorillas by a park ranger guide.

He shall introduce you to the Gorillas as well as brief on the conduct about being in the presence of the Gorillas then later distribute you in groups of 8 with a park ranger guide who leads you into the green forest vegetation habitat to trek the Mountain Gorillas.

Enter the Green Forest then in a period of 3-5 hours trekking along the trails following guidelines provided by the trackers, you later meet them and in an hour takes many photos to keep.

On your trek you can hire porters to help you carry your luggage at US $10 to US $15. 

Mountain Gorilla Trekking Rules & Regulations

  • Take photos with a camera that has no flash.
  • Do not touch the Mountain Gorillas even when approached.
  • Keep a distance of 7 meters from the Gorillas.
  • Keep calm and quiet around the Mountain Gorillas.
  • Only an Hour is allowed in the presence of the Gorillas.
  • You are distributed in groups of 8 to trek the Gorillas.
  • Don’t sneeze in the face of the Gorillas for they are vulnerable to human diseases like cough, flu.
